Why the eff did I start a blog? Don’t I have anything better to do?

Yep. But also, no.

I am a daughter of the universe. (That’s not how I intended to finish that sentence, but it just came out of me, so we’re rolling with it.)

I am a business owner, a nonfiction book coach (writing coach) and editor, an architect, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a person with too many goals and too many books on my TBR (lol there’s no such thing as too many!).

Sure, I often fill my days working, watching TV, doomscrolling, reading, chatting with my friends, connecting with my husband, hanging out with my mom, and plenty of other things.

But without fail—at least 5 times a day—I unlock my phone, start to write or record a post for social media (specifically threads or IG), and then change my mind. I start because I feel like I have something to say, but I stop because social media doesn’t feel like the right place to say it.

All the apps are too. . . capitalistic. I crave expression. And I don’t want my subconscious to be all like, “But what will your audience think?” when I want to share something real. (Do I know what real is? Meh, not really, or not always, but still.) I don’t want to be thinking about my clients or prospective clients or business partners who follow me. I just want to create. And even if they end up following me here, too, I owe them nothing when I’m casually contemplating. What a relief!

And. . . I’m a writer, goddammit! So if I want to start a personal blog where I share all the random shit I want to say about life, business, relationships, philosophy, society, oppressive systems, and anything else that crosses my mind, I will!

Sorry. That was hostile.

But yeah, that’s why I’m here. So that every time I have a thought I want to share without necessarily caring about who sees it, I have a place to go. And don’t worry, I’m not going to make this my personal journal or anything. (I did that once twice in college, and let’s just say it did not end well.) While I fully plan on doing some deep reflection and sharing powerful (to me) insights, I promise to keep the painfully personal stuff in therapy.

This blog is for self-expression, for re-cultivating a creative practice. A hobby outside of work—no monetization or secret agendas with things like “grow my list” as a stated goal.

Casual Contemplations is as casual as the name explicitly says.

Welcome. :)
